OPTICAL NOIZE IV

Data:

Video Beta SP, CH 1995 , 6'13''

Description of work:

OPTICAL NOIZE IV is one of the very early VJ works of ivan engler (ivan e.)

Recorded live during a rave in 1994, it is a work of visualizing music in realtime, using digital and analog video processing equipment.

"While listening to the sound the DJ plays, i try to visually formulate and express what i am hearing.During such a performance, one cannot expect 6 or even 8 hours of perfectly visualized music - but there are moments of unity. unity of rhythm and form, of image and sound. OPTICAL NOIZE IV is definitely one of these moments."

Press Text A:

OPTICAL NOIZE IV is an up-to-date expansion of Visual Music in the context of Techno-Culture. Through the implementation of computer animation and hard, electronic sounds, OPTICAL NOIZE IV provocatively and blasphemously throws out the question: Visual Music = Optical Noise?

Press Text B:

Optical Noize IV translates media technology into structural signs producing - in rhythmic harmony with techno beats - a hypnotic feeling that correlates in every respect with a certain zeitgeist and developing an abstract visual language appropriate to the content.
